What is asset finance?

Asset finance lets a business spread the cost of equipment, machinery, vehicles or technology over one to seven years instead of paying upfront. The asset itself usually acts as security, so cash stays in the business. The main types are hire purchase, finance lease, operating lease and asset refinance.

How it works

Tell us about your business and what you need. Your dedicated account manager compares asset finance options from across our lending panel, prepares the application on your behalf and presents a clear, no-obligation quote. There is no impact on your credit score until you choose to proceed.

Who is it for?

UK limited companies, partnerships and sole traders in almost every sector — from start-ups to established businesses, including those with a less-than-perfect credit history.

Asset Finance: common questions

What can be funded with asset finance?

Almost any business asset with a resale value: plant and machinery, commercial vehicles, manufacturing and medical equipment, IT hardware, and "soft" assets such as software, fit-outs and furniture. New and used assets are considered.

What is the difference between hire purchase and leasing?

With hire purchase you own the asset after the final payment. With a lease you rent it for a fixed term and choose at the end to return, extend or upgrade — ownership normally stays with the funder.

Do I need a deposit for asset finance?

Not always. Many agreements need a deposit of around 10–20%, or the first rentals in advance, but deposit-free options exist for established businesses with good credit.

Can a new business get asset finance?

Yes. Because the asset secures the agreement, start-ups and young companies can often get asset finance more easily than an unsecured loan, sometimes with a larger deposit or a director’s guarantee.
